May 17, 2012 - A VERY IMPORTANT WARNING TO PARENTS IF YOUR CHILD HAS AN iPOD TOUCH OR iPHONE
- These products do have limited parental controls that can restrict the use of certain apps such as YouTube and Safari (Apple's Internet browser) so you can keep your children from browsing inappropriate content on the Internet.

HOWEVER - THERE IS A PROBLEM with Apple's latest iPod software update. After the software update and without notification or warning, Safari gets bumped off of the "restricted" list, and will appear as an application (app) for your child to the freely explore the Internet with no content restrictions at all, including adult content.

WHAT CAN HAPPEN? How about your 9-year-old showing you what they found on the Internet when they searched for words like "teens" and "teen fun" in Google Images. A decent parent's worst nightmare, that's what.

SOLUTION: Simply put, Apple will do nothing about it. They won't even acknowledge the issue. As always you MUST BE SELF RELIANT. If you find it necessary for your child to have one of these items all I can suggest is BE DILIGENT! Go over again and again what they can or cannot access on their devices! Before AND after software updates. Even have them only use the devices in your presence not alone or with friends. Talk to your kids and have them show you what they do on their iPods. Once items are restricted, they are not always restricted! Whatever you do... never, NEVER assume the device is safe to use.

Shame on you Apple for your recklessness, and pretending nothing's wrong with your software code. Internet security is our business... we know how this works, and we know better.

Good luck to all the decent parents and caregivers who only wanted to give your kids a cool techie toy for your child to enjoy, explore, and be creative on. Please be smart and cautious.
